How Can I Lift a Vehicle on A Two-Post Lift

How Can I Lift a Vehicle on A Two-Post Lift?

Have you ever found yourself in a position to lift your vehicle and did not have any idea how to do that?

Well, at least I did (Countless times)

And for the sake of the last time and for good reasons, I did enough research on how to do it and succeeded in the first few attempts.

It was not an easy journey, but I learned in the process. My experience and learning made the journey more interesting for my fellow readers so that they could learn from the best and honest mistakes to get theirs right.

Here’s how I cracked it – Before trying to lift your car or truck on a two-post lift, you need to know how to fix and set your car on the surface, and you will have to consider some things before lifting it safely.

With all that in mind, I’m going to tell you what you need to know about two post lifts and their working procedures so that you can get an in-depth idea of how they work before you get started.

How do two post lifts work?

The science behind the working procedure is light and simple.

If you ask me, the most important study is if you want to master the art of lifting your vehicle. Two-post lift is two metals acting like a frame supporting the vehicle’s weight.

You must fit the lift according to your vehicle’s size (which may vary from vehicle to vehicle). These are usually compared with four post lifts, but in this article, I’ll only talk about two.

After you are familiar with the working mechanics of the two-post lift, let’s introduce you to the procedure of how you can lift a vehicle on a two-post lift.

Here’s how you can lift a vehicle on a two-post vehicle

Before you do anything, get things in order! Run proper inspections!

Always inspect whether the car is in good condition or not so that it should be safe to operate. Also, the weight of the vehicle’s axle should not exceed half of the lift’s capacity.

After you are done ensuring the vehicle’s safety to get started, you are good to go.

Here’s a quick guideline on how you can lift your car:

  • Drive your vehicle in the lifting zone. This should be a piece of cake, even if you are new to driving. In this step, all you need to do is to drive your vehicle to the bay, centering the vehicle between the post.

Ensure the wheels are properly positioned on the spotting dish so that it becomes safe and more manageable to lift later on.

To add– You do not need to sweat about the security and accidents involving the spotting dish on the internet anymore, there are usually cautions found on the lift, and if it’s not there, you can always find one on the owner’s manual.

  • Check your adapters. Always review if the adapters you are going with are appropriate for your vehicle.

Here is what I came to know from my inquiry into this world of information– RE adapters are used for unibody vehicles, TA adapters are for frames, and flip-up adapters are for either.

  • Work on your adapters. After you are confident of the adapters, you are to place the adapters at the lifting points. Take the manufacturer’s guidance at this point. And there have been times when I had to use extensions to reach the lifting points. Use that if you are in a similar situation. This will help to level your vehicle when necessary.
  • The final work on adapters. Finally, you will have to push the power button to lift or raise the arms until adapters make contact with the lifting points of the vehicles.
  • Start lifting the vehicle. Once you have made the adapters connect, your vehicle is ready to be lifted. To get started, raise your vehicle off the ground at a moderate level immediately after you lifted the arms in the previous step.

Ensure the vehicle level once it is off the floor.

  • Raise the lift to your preferred height. This is a crucial part where you need to check the front and the rear part of the vehicle before lifting it higher. Push the front and the rear part of the car and see if the car is level and fit on the post, ready to be lifted further.
  • Make sure to lower the lift to its locks. This is a subtle yet unavoidable step to avoid accidents.

And these are the steps to lift your vehicle at any height you want with the least hassle you can avoid. I tried, failed, and learned in the process; this is the only guide that would work for me. Even for beginners, this should be easy-peasy.

To lower the height – You need to raise it off of the lift lock first. Then you need to pull down and hold the lock release while pushing the down lever. Keep doing it until you reach your desired height.

And this should be easy-peasy, without a doubt.

Safety precautions

By this time, you already know that I have dodged terrible accidents that could occur due to not having enough understanding of the safety precautions.

If you ask me, you need to read that owner’s manual. Everything you need to know will always be there. I have double-checked my adapters and spotting dish and checked everything once again before lifting anything.

I’ve read through the manual and guides on the internet on how to avoid accidents beforehand. Some of them were really good (I’ll share the best one at the end of this article).

I have also taken help from people who have been in the business and would help me with their experience (This article is doing their job in your case).

Apart from that, I highly recommend visiting the site autolift.org to study the comprehensive guide on the safety of lifts to avoid accidents. This should ensure a smooth experience.
